The Green Team

"To the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it."

The Green Team planting a Giving Grove apple orchard on the church lawn, April 18, 2016.

The LCR Green Team believes that caring for creation in all its uniqueness and inclusiveness is embedded in our fundamental character as a faith community.  Everyone is part of the Green Team, in different ways and at different levels. Deuteronomy 10:14

There are five areas where creation care is evident in the life of the congregation:

Ø        Worship – Remembering our place in God’s universe and our responsibility to His world is part of our regular worship; special Earth Sunday and Creation Sunday events bring special focus.

Ø        Education – Adult classes, newsletter articles, practical resources.

Ø        Building and grounds – We are an Interfaith Power and Light certified “Cool Congregation”

Ø        Discipleship/stewardship – Facilitating stewardship in everyday lives: how to do an energy audit and use a carbon calculator, recycling resources, community supported agriculture memberships, collecting plastic bags for making sleeping mats for the homeless.

Ø        Public ministry/advocacy – How eco-justice issues are part of our mission to “Meet God, practice community, serve Christ and live generously”.

A GUIDE TO GREEN SHOPPING — because how we shop impacts the earth.

“Humans, in service to God, have special roles on behalf of the whole creation.  Made in the image of God, we are called to care for the earth as God cares for the earth.” (ELCA, “Caring for Creation:  Vision, Hope, and Justice,” 1993)
